As a ceramic artist residing in Arizona, my work has become deeply influenced by the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. I’m constantly finding inspiration in the colors, textures, and forms found in the deserts, mountains, and canyons of this region.

My recent work involves harvesting local materials, which I gather with the help of my young sons. During our hikes in the desert, we cultivate clay, sand, and other natural materials that will be used to create functional pieces which are both beautiful and sustainable. By using local materials, I hope to create a deeper connection between my art and the environment that inspires it.

Each piece I create is also imbued with a sense of place through the incorporation of geographical information. I document the locations where the materials were sourced, including trail numbers, roads, and other relevant information. This allows each piece to serve as a unique representation of a specific place, capturing the essence of the landscape in which it was created.

By including this information on each piece, I hope to create a deeper connection between the owner and the landscape that inspired it. Whether it's a mug that was decorated from clay found on a remote trail in the Sonoran Desert or a bowl with sand harvested near a local river, each piece tells a story of the natural world that surrounds us.

My functional ceramics are not just objects, but rather artifacts that reflect the beauty and complexity of the natural world. Through my work, I hope to inspire a greater appreciation for the environment and encourage others to seek out the beauty that can be found in the world around us.
